At the April 7, 2022 Village Board Meeting, Mayor Ron Gunter recognized Westmont Police Chief Jim Gunther for his 25 years of service with the Village of Westmont.
Gunther began his law enforcement career as a patrolman with the Westmont Police Department in 1997. In 2000, he was assigned to the investigations division as a detective and additionally assigned to the Felony Investigative Assistance Team (FIAT) Major Crimes Unit. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2006, and in 2007, he was assigned as the Investigations Division Supervisor. In 2010, Gunther was appointed to the position of deputy chief of police, and in 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Chief of Police.
Chief Gunther serves as the President of the DuPage County Chiefs of Police Association, Chairman of the MERIT multi-jurisdictional task force covering all of DuPage County, and Executive Board member of the DuPage County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (DuMEG).
The Village of Westmont thanks Jim for his many years of service and dedication to the community.
