Village of Westmont
Date Issued: October 16, 2013
As people do their fall cleanup for their private properties, the Village of Westmont wants to remind residents about our Yard Waste Pickup Program through Waste Management. “Residents who are unable to manage their yard waste on their property can purchase yard waste bags and stickers, and then place these materials out for pickup,” says Village Clerk Virginia Szymski. “Also, during the month of November, residents can put out up to two yard waste bags of leaves per collection date free of charge.” Specific information regarding the Westmont Yard Waste Collection Program should be addressed to Waste Management, 1-800-796-9696.
It is important that residents do not place their leaves and grass clippings in the street as they will ultimately wash into the storm sewer and potentially clog our community drainage system which could result in flooding.
“Our Stormwater Management Committee has been very active in regard to developing initiatives to address flooding issues in our community,” says Trustee Steve Nero. “One of our committee members suggested that we remind residents to make sure that they properly dispose of leaves and grass clippings using yard waste bags or a yard management service. Leaves should not be raked to the curb or to the street as they will ultimately be carried to the storm sewers and can create blockages. We want to thank residents for their cooperation with keeping our storm sewers clear.”
