Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: February 11, 2022
USA Swimming has recently announced that they will be coming to Westmont, Illinois to host a TYR Pro Swim Series Event. The 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont has been scheduled to take place March 2-5 at the FMC Natatorium in Westmont. This event is being hosted by the official national organization that selects and trains athletes for international competitions including the Olympics.
"We are honored and excited to bring this TYR Pro Series event to our community,” said MaryAnn Kaufman, founder of FMC Natatorium. “The following week, we will host the Age Group State Meet. We know our Age Group State swimmers will be excited and inspired by the fact that some of the fastest swimmers in the world swam at FMC one week before them.”
Dave Krotiak, FMC Head Coach and Facility Director added, "The TYR Pro Series Meet is a wonderful opportunity for the swimming community to come out and watch these incredible athletes compete. This is the beginning of FMC Natatorium bringing nationally recognized events to Westmont and the community of DuPage.”
USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. USA Swimming strives to promote the culture of swimming by creating safe and healthy opportunities for athletes and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events and education. Membership is composed of swimmers of every age and ability, all the way up to the Olympic Team, as well as coaches, officials and volunteers.
“I would like to thank Maryann Kaufman and their team for moving so quickly on this opportunity,” said Westmont Mayor Ron Gunter. “Additionally, thanks to Beth Marchetti and the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau for their hard work behind the scenes to help make this happen. This outcome demonstrates the value we receive by being partnered with the DCVB and other groups that support local tourism. Along with the Midwest trials for the U.S. Luge Team, Westmont is now host to two events that lead to the Olympics.” It is estimated that this event will bring over 500 guests to the community, all of whom will be booking overnight accommodations and visiting local businesses and restaurants.
The 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont will be a qualifier for athletes to compete at the Phillips 66 International Team Trials, which will take place April 26-30 in Greensboro, North Carolina and decide the U.S. rosters for the 2022 FINA World Championships and World Junior Championships.
Tickets to the event will be available for purchase. Look for more information regarding this event to be published soon.
