Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: September 9, 2021
Earlier this week, the Westmont Fire Department was one of several agencies from Illinois that set out for New Orleans, Louisiana to assist with the aftermath of the recent hurricanes in that area.
“We sent three of our firefighters and joined a total of 19 emergency vehicles that will respond to the disaster and do all that we can to help the people who were most impacted by the event,” said Fire Chief Steve Riley, who participated in the relief effort after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. “We thank the members of our team who chose to participate and pray for their safe return upon completion of their mission.”
The emergency personnel from Westmont will be living in tents at a remote site for a total of 17 days. They will be assisting local jurisdictions with flooding problems, search and rescue operations, and other concerns relating to the hurricane.
