Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: June 22, 2021
U.S. Congressman Sean Casten recently visited the Westmont Fire Department to meet with Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley and village staff to talk about the current status of the fire department and how COVID-19 has affected the department. Casten toured the Fire Department Headquarters along with guests U.S. House of Representatives District Director Laura Schock and Humberto Zermeno, who is a Wounded Warrior Fellow.
Humberto is a Marine Corps Veteran who served four years and was honorably discharged in 2016 at the rank of Corporal E4. During his four years of service, he served one combat tour in Kuwait. His role in the Marine Corps was as an Administrative Specialist while stationed in San Diego, California. Humberto joined the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program to become more involved with government and public service.
During the visit, Casten was given a demonstration of various life-saving equipment used by the fire department. The group also discussed the need for new and updated equipment that could possibly be acquired through government grants. The importance of updating post office addresses so that municipal and post office boundaries are aligned was also discussed.
“Representative Casten has been a good friend to Westmont,” said Fire Chief Riley. “He visits us regularly to check in and learn about our operations, and ultimately help us in securing resources to ensure that our fire department is well-trained and equipped.”
Pictures from Congressman Castens visit to Westmont have been posted in the Village of Westmont photo gallery.
