Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: June 18, 2021
At a recent Village Fire Public Safety Committee meeting, Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley recognized Westmont resident Giavanna Mucha for outstanding actions in spotting a fire and alerting her parents. Chief Riley invited Giavanna and her family to the committee meeting to receive the recognition in front of the Mayor and Village officials.
Five year old Giavanna was outside the morning of May 25, and saw a fire in her yard. She quickly alerted her parents who then called 9-1-1. The Westmont Fire Department arrived on the scene to find the plants and bushes in her yard on fire along with a chain link fence that was electrically charged due to issues with a power line being hit. Her quick actions to alert her parents of this issue saved the fire from spreading further and causing damage to the surrounding homes.
Photos from the meeting can be viewed on the Village Photo Gallery.
