Date Issued: July 22, 2013
“Last year was our biggest Fire Truck Night ever,” says Fire Chief David Weiss, “and this year we’re planning to step it up even more.” This Thursday, July 25, the Westmont Street Fair and Westmont Cruisin’ Nights is featuring fire trucks and military vehicles. The Fresh Market is 4-8 p.m., and the fire trucks and classic car show is 6-9 p.m.
“We’re bringing back the moon jump for the kids as well as offering tours of our vehicles and visits with Sparky the Fire Dog and Freddy the Fire Truck. And this year we’ll also have a Fire Truck Parade at the end of the night,” says Weiss. The parade will start shortly after 9 p.m. to wrap up the evening. “This year is the Fire Department’s 90th Anniversary, so we wanted to do something special. We’ll be hosting some additional special events later in the year.”
As always, classic cars of all makes and models are invited each week and can sign up for free drawings. “Our goal is to bring families and visitors to downtown Westmont,” says Westmont Special Events Corp. (WSEC) Board Member and Cruisin’ Nights Volunteer Bob Reid. “We hear a lot of positive feedback about the new layout. We hope that when people come to the event, they stop and shop at our downtown businesses.”
The WSEC also encourages everyone to visit and shop at the Westmont Fresh Marketplace, which is part of the Street Fair event. This week, the market will feature The Farm, which is a Westmont fresh produce vendor located in the South Westmont Business District on 63rd Street.
This thursday’s event will also feature a cooking demonstration by Neat Restaurant, live music by the band Cover Story, remote control car demonstrations by Big Squid RC, and beanbag open play sponsored by Play It Again Sports.
