COMMUNITY ALERT
Date Issued: Saturday, July 14, 2012
Issue By: Thomas R. Mulhearn- Chief of Police & David Weiss- Fire Chief
Starting on Monday, July 16 through Wednesday, July 18, 2012, NICOR will be evacuating some of their gas mains along 55th Street in order to switch service over to their new main line. Most of the NICOR work will take place west of Richmond Street and extending past Cass Avenue. Most of this activity will occur during daytime hours.
While NICOR evacuates the gas that is in the existing main the odor of natural gas in the area is common. However, depending on the winds in the area, this odor may travel in the area.
This information is being passed along in the event you live in the area and smell a faint odor of gas. If you smell a strong odor of gas during the evening or overnight hours, we recommend you contact the Westmont Fire Department who will respond to conduct an odor investigation. However, during the day, depending on your location and weather conditions, if you smell a strong odor of gas in your home you should consider contacting the Westmont Fire Department.
