Westmont, Illinois -- Date Issued: April 29, 2021
The Village of Westmont’s 100th Anniversary Committee has created and designed a fun, interactive learning experience that incorporates fitness as well. “I noticed the success of various storytime walks and thought we could do something similar for the 100th Anniversary as well,” said Maercker School District staff Sandy Henricken, who initially suggested the idea. “We hope that this will be a fun way for residents and families to learn more about Westmont’s history.”
The 100th Anniversary Historical Walk will be located at Diane Main Park, 300 W. 59th Street in Westmont on Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 1 and continuing through June 13. Then the historical signs will be set up at the Westmont Historical Society’s Gregg House Museum, 115 S. Linden Street, beginning Sunday, June 20 through the end of July.
There will be a total of 21 signs placed along the pathways around the lakes at Diane Main Park. Each historical sign will tell a story about the history of Westmont and its development as a community over the past century. The walk will represent a historical timeline of Westmont that people can enjoy while visiting the park.
