Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: November 20, 2020
On November 7, the Environmental Improvement Committee (EIC) hosted a pumpkin composting and holiday light recycling event at the Westmont Public Library. Almost 250 residents from Westmont and 7 neighboring communities dropped off lights to be recycled and 5.55 TONS of pumpkins to be composted. This is over three and a half times the amount from last year.
Composting your pumpkin saves landfill space, hundreds of gallons of water, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and puts essential nutrients back into the soil. The EIC encourages everyone to green your Halloween every year and compost your pumpkins. Residents can still drop off used or unwanted holiday lights to be recycled at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N Cass Avenue, or Westmont Fire Dept., 6015 S. Cass Avenue.
