[ARCHIVED] DuPage Offers Free Drive-Thru Flu Vaccine

Westmont, Illinois - Date Issued: November 17, 2020

The DuPage County Health Department will offer a free drive-thru flu vaccination clinic for residents, ages 18 years to 65 years old.  Participants will be vaccinated from the convenience of their vehicle.

These clinics will be held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois on Wednesday, November 18, and Friday, November 20, 2020.  Vaccine supplies are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., or until doses are no longer available.  Visitors should enter through the main entrance of the fairgrounds at 2015 Manchester Road.  Visitors are asked to wear a mask and short-sleeved shirt or sleeves that roll up for easy access to the upper arm.

“We are urging residents to get their flu shots, to help avoid potential co-infection with COVID-19 and flu, which may help prevent more severe illness and hospitalizations.  This is especially important as our local COVID-19 cases continue to rise exponentially,” said Karen Ayala, Executive Director of the DuPage County Health Department.  The flu shot is recommended for anyone age six months and older, particularly those who are at high risk of serious flu complications.  These groups include young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease, and those who are age 65 and older. Although the drive-thru flu clinic will not serve all age groups, additional flu vaccination resources are provided below.

In addition to getting your flu vaccine, the Health Department recommends following the 3 W’s for both COVID-19 and influenza.

  • Wear your mask
  • Watch your distance
  • Wash your hands

To increase accessibility to all DuPage County residents, the DuPage Health Coalition offers free flu shots to low-income, uninsured residents of DuPage County.  To learn more or request a voucher, visit  accessdupage.org/flu/.  In addition to the flu vaccine voucher program, several local Federally Qualified Health Centers are also offering flu vaccines to their uninsured patients.
