WorkNet DuPage is currently providing free job training, rent assistance and other supportive services here in DuPage County.
Participants can choose from a wide array of educational programs to gain key skills and professional credentials. Options include healthcare, computers, trucking, manufacturing, marketing, and many others. Eligible programs focus on high-wage, short-term training, including certified medical assistant, CNC machining, digital marketing, commercial driver’s license, information technology, and many others. Most approved providers will be offered remote learning options so residents can complete training from the comfort of their home.
“DuPage County’s Workforce Development Division provides federal Department of Labor grant-funded services to unemployed individuals so they may attend job training programs, earn marketable credentials, and secure employment that provides family-sustaining wages,” said Lisa Schvach, Executive Director of workNet DuPage. “Individuals can qualify for up to $10,000 in federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act grant funding, and this money does not need to be paid back. Grants can be used to attend job training, certificate, or professional development programs in all the major industry sectors and career paths while collecting unemployment benefits. Many training programs are being conducted both virtually and in-person at this time, so we encourage those who have been affected by COVID-related layoffs or furloughs to take advantage.”
WorkNet DuPage has also recently teamed up with DuPage County Community Services to offer additional support for DuPage County renters laid-off or furloughed as a result of COVID-19. Through this partnership, rent assistance is also available to eligible households that will cover both back and future rent costs.
WorkNet DuPage trains job seekers and incumbent workers by connecting them with the jobs, training, education or services most likely to help each of them build or advance a career. WorkNet DuPage also develops the workforce through innovative talent pipeline initiatives with the ultimate success of the employer and jobseeker in mind, and connects businesses and job seekers building a comprehensive and integrated approach to workforce development.
