[ARCHIVED] WSEC Plans Modified Halloween Events

WSEC 2020 Halloween Events Graphic

Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: September 9, 2020

Due to COVID-19 and Illinois Phase IV Guidelines, typical Halloween events in Westmont such as the Trick-or-Treat Trail, Casket Races, Pumpkin Smashing Contest, and the Haunted Forest have been cancelled.  However, the Westmont Special Events Corporation, which is the volunteer NFP organization responsible for Taste of Westmont, Cruisin’ Nights, and other events, is planning two Halloween events for 2020 - the modified Wicked West Fest Costume Contest and the Halloween Home Decorating Contest.

“For the past several years, we’ve been expanding the Wicked West Fest Costume Contest, so we definitely want to build off that momentum,” said Westmont Special Events Secretary Larry McIntyre.  “This year, people can sign up to be part of our Wicked West Fest Costume Contest and we will come to you to drop off Halloween treats and take pictures for our online voting.  We’re also kicking off our first-ever Halloween Home Decorating Contest.”

WICKED WEST FEST COSTUME CONTEST

Westmont Special Events is inviting families to sign up online for our modified Wicked West Fest Costume Contest.  Participants can either take a photo in their costumes and send it in, or you can sign up to have our WSEC “Costumed Kooky Characters” visit your home to take pictures of costumed contestants and drop off a Halloween goodie bag.  Then, all photos will be posted online for the community to review and vote for the best costumes in each age group/category.  Costume contest winners will be announced online and receive gifts and prizes.  Following are details for the contest.

COSTUME CONTEST RULES:

  • Contestants must sign up online by Monday, October 19 - https://forms.gle/7Ks2FXE59SNWgyNm8
  • Home visits will be scheduled for Saturday, October 24 between 9AM & Noon - Specific times will be scheduled prior to the event date
  • Participants must be in costume and ready when the Wicked West Fest team arrives at your home at the scheduled time
  • Pictures of all costumed participants will be posted online for public voting
  • Judging criteria - creativity, originality, hand-made, and overall costume impact
  • All participants and Wicked West Fest judges must follow Phase 4 Restore Illinois Guidelines
  • Event will be held rain or shine
  • Voting will begin Oct. 25 and end at midnight on Oct. 30 - Winners will be announced on the WSEC website and social media on Halloween

HALLOWEEN HOME DECORATING CONTEST

Westmont Special Events is coordinating its first Halloween Home Decorating Contest.  Sign up online at https://forms.gle/akAPA7JFmPsayCLU8 to participate.  Participants can either send in up to five pictures of your entry, or the WSEC will visit your home to take photos. All pictures of entries and contestant addresses will be published online for public voting.  Judging criteria will include: theme, creativity, and overall impact.  All entries must be received by Friday, October 23.  Voting will begin Oct. 25 and end at midnight on Oct. 30 - Winners will be announced on Halloween via the WSEC website and social media.
