BNSF Railroad will be conducting overnight work from Thursday evening, September 17 through Sunday, September 20. BNSF plans to replace 11,000 ties on the tracks from Berwyn to Downers Grove. The project may cause BNSF/Metra train delays during construction.
During the overnight construction, all trains passing the work zones will be required to sound their whistles. The workers will also be using large lighting racks for illuminating the work zone.
BNSF is also planning several nightly pedestrian crossing closures, however, Cass Avenue is expected to remain open. Closing the crossings protects employees and the general public during work like this. Additionally, the BNSF signal crossing team has several safety checks required for this equipment. These checks can be time consuming and having the crossing closed ensures that work starts on time and that crossings are able to reopen on time (or earlier) in the morning.
