“I want to thank our staff and their diligence in pursuing all available funding to assist us during this difficult economy,” said Westmont Fire Chief Steve Riley. “These grants assist with costs associated with COVID-19 such as specialized training, PPE, and other critical supplies.” At the August 27, 2020 Village Board meeting, the Westmont Fire Department announced that they had received two grants totaling $220,023.00.
On August 11, 2020, U.S. Representative Sean Casten announced that the Westmont Illinois Fire Department had been awarded a second Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), in the amount of $181,818.00, from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. The Westmont Fire had previously received a $38,205.00 COVID-19 Supplemental AFG earlier this summer.
"As we continue working together through this incredibly challenging moment, it is critical that our firefighters and first responders have our steadfast support and the resources they need to best protect themselves and our communities,” said Casten. “This additional grant funding will go even further for our community by providing Westmont Fire with resources necessary for effective emergency and coronavirus response.”
