DuPage County Community Services will accept applications for the annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) beginning July 27 until June 30, 2021, or until funds are depleted.
Households in need of energy assistance, especially those with disconnection notices, high past due balances, and the general population who have been impacted by wage fluctuations due to COVID-19, are encouraged to apply. Propane customers are strongly encouraged to apply in August when fuel prices are lowest.
If your household’s combined gross income for the prior 30 days beginning with the date of the application is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, you may be eligible to receive assistance. A single-person household can qualify for the program with a monthly gross income of up to $2,127; a two-person household up to $2,873; and a family of four can earn up to $4,367. Benefits are paid directly to the utilities on behalf of eligible households.
The PIPP Program (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) will also be offered this program year to ComEd and Nicor Gas customers. PIPP applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis and are based on 150 percent of the federal poverty level. Applications for PIPP will be taken from Sept. 1 until March 31, 2021, or until funding is exhausted. A single-person household can qualify for the PIPP Program with a monthly gross income of up to $1,595; a two-person household up to $2,155; and a family of four can earn up to $3,275.
Customers must provide the following documentation when applying:
- Social Security Cards for all household members
- Proof of gross income from all household members for the 30-day period beginning with the date of application
- Current heat and electric bills issued within the last 30 days
- Copy of lease for people who rent
