Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: June 16, 2020
The Morton Arboretum, in partnership with the Chicago Regional Tree Initiative, recently released a video to educate communities about the importance of trees and encourage chicagoland municipalities and public agencies to invest in green infrastructure. The Village of Westmont was only one of two DuPage communities to be featured in the project. Westmont Mayor Ron Gunter was interviewed for the video and talked about the fact that green initiatives are important to Westmont and have been identified as one of our community goals in our Westmont Strategic Plan.
“Our staff has done an incredible job for many years making sure that Westmont has a flourishing and diverse tree population,” said Mayor Gunter. “It’s an honor to be chosen to be part of a project like this. This year, Westmont earned the Tree City USA designation for the 24th consecutive year, which further speaks to our commitment to the environment.”
The ‘Trees Are Infrastructure’ Video has been posted on the Morton Arboretum YouTube Channel. For more information about the importance of trees, visit the Chicago Region Trees Initiative Website.
