[ARCHIVED] Life Saving Awards Presented to Westmont Fire and Police Personnel

Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: February 28, 2020

At the February 27, 2020 Westmont Public Safety Committee meeting, Mayor Ron Gunter, Fire Dept. Captain Lynn Dralle, and Trustee Marie Johanik-Guzzo presented several members of the Westmont Fire and Police Departments with Life Saving Awards.  These awards are given to First Responders who apply life-saving measures to an individual who goes on to live an independent life.

“I am so proud of our Westmont First Responders,” said Mayor Ron Gunter.  “Their training and dedication to the community helps ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens.  We thank them for all they do.”

Following are descriptions of the life-saving events and a list of the First Responders involved:

July 14, 2019
Westmont received a 9-1-1 call regarding an unresponsive 73-year old female on July 14, 2019.  Police arrived first on the scene and began administering CPR to the patient.  Fire Department personnel arrived and found the patient did not have a pulse.  The crew placed her on a cardiac monitor and found her in shockable rhythm, then defibrillated once which brought her into a viable rhythm.  Because of the efforts of Westmont First Responders, the patient was revived, transported to the hospital, and went on to a full recovery.

Westmont received a 9-1-1 call regarding an unconscious 68-year old male on December 19, 2019.  Westmont Police arrived first on the scene and began administering chest compressions to the patient. The Fire crew arrived to find the patient unresponsive and without a pulse.  The crew placed him on a cardiac monitor and was unable to shock so they placed him on Auto Pulse and intubated the patient.  The crew administered one round of drugs and CPR, the patient then gained blood pressure and a pulse.  Because of the efforts of Westmont First Responders the patient was brought to the hospital breathing and with a pulse.  The patient was able to be released from the hospital in time for the holidays.
