At the November 21 Public Safety Committee Meeting, Westmont Chief of Police Jim Gunther presented several awards to Police Department personnel.
Officers Kamil Broda was presented with the Chief’s Recognition Commendation Award for being first on the scene to an apartment fire and assisting with the evacuation of residents and pets. Officer John Majeski, who was not present at the meeting, will also receive the Chief’s award for his help with the evacuation during the fire.
Officer Arben Sylejmani, who was not present at the meeting, will receive the Chief’s Recognition Commendation Award for quickly identifying and responding to the onset of a residential house fire. Due to his early intervention, Officer Sylejmani was able to safely evacuate residents from the scene.
Officer Hugo Pacheco was presented with the Chief’s Recognition Commendation Award for his involvement with saving the lives of two individuals who were experiencing a drug overdose. Pacheco’s investigation of the crime scene led to (3) class X felony drug charges.
Deputy Chief Brian Gruen was also presented with the Chief’s Recognition Commendation Award for his fundraising efforts with Special Olympics Illinois. Brian coordinated a variety of events over several years, which resulted in raising over $40,000. Also, in 2017, Gruen and Special Olympics Illinois athlete Erin Compton were featured in a national ad campaign for the annual Dunkin’ Donuts Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser.
