[ARCHIVED] Westmont Partners with SCARCE to Reuse and Recycle Right

The Village of Westmont has been working with School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE) for many years.  SCARCE strives to provide DuPage County with environmental-friendly educational resources and programs.

SCARCE accepts items to be reused and recycled every Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Donated items should be placed in boxes, approximately the size of a copy paper box.  To schedule a donation of 5 or more boxes, call 630-545-9710.  Items are not accepted outside of scheduled donation hours.

The list of accepted items collected by SCARCE is always evolving.  Following is a list of some of the items that SCARCE regularly collects:
  • LP records, CDs, DVDs, Laser Disks, and Video Games - NOTE: NO CASES
  • School and office supplies (IE: writing utensils, art and craft supplies, yarn, crayons, white boards, scissors, staplers)
  • Keys (household, luggage, car) 
  • Musical Instruments 
  • Holiday lights and cords (phone, computer)
  • Eyeglasses, sunglasses, and hearing aids
  • Plastic bread tags and corks (natural cork only, no plastic)
  • Box Tops for Education
  • Shredded paper and greeting cards
  • X-rays, MRI’s, 35 mm film canisters, and Lithographic Film
SCARCE helps make recycling and donating easy.  Please be sure that items are in boxes with a lid or flaps that close flat.  Boxes must not exceed 30lbs.

SCARCE is an award-winning environmental education non-profit dedicated to creating sustainable communities. They accomplish this through innovative and hands-on education programs for schools and organizations, demonstrating care for our natural resources through our Book Rescue, and engaging the broader public through community-wide events and programs.  SCARCE also assists with coordinating offsite opportunities to reuse and recycle at various locations throughout DuPage County.  SCARCE also holds educational classes for DuPage County residents and teachers.  For more information on offsite events, classes, and SCARCE in general please visit: www.scarce.org
