Felony Investigative Assistance Team Intergovernmental Police Service Agreement
Board to consider an ordinance approving a successor Intergovernmental Police Services Agreement (IPSA) between the Village of Westmont and the Felony Investigative Assistance Team (FIAT) for shared police services.
- Background of Subject Matter
- The current IPSA between the police department & FIAT has been in effect since 1998. After review, Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA) proposed new language to strengthen potential liability issues that may exist for member agencies of FIAT.
- Additional Background
- IRMA drafted language that will protect against a member agency from being sued independently. FIAT exists only as an extension of the member agencies through the IPSA & does not carry independent liability insurance.
- Indemnification language clarifies that a member agency requesting shared resources is responsible for indemnifying FIAT & the other agencies that contribute resources. Staff recommends approval.
