Flood Information
Throughout the Midwest, citizens have endured a growing number of severe weather incidents for more than a decade.  Following the historic rainfall and resulting flood on April 18, 2013, the Village of Westmont held a special meeting to review the response to that event as well as discuss options for addressing these issues in the future.  Soon thereafter, the Village Board approved the creation of the Community Stormwater Management Committee.  This committee, consisting of residents from throughout the community as well as Village elected officials and staff, met regularly to discuss the goals of reviewing community stormwater management needs, prioritizing community stormwater projects, and determining methods for funding these projects.  

Westmont Stormwater-Infrastructure Sales Tax Referendum
In the Spring of 2015, Westmont voters approved the Westmont Stormwater-Infrastructure Sales Tax Referendum, thus allowing the Village to collect a .5% sales tax on local purchases to generate revenue that is specifically targeted for stormwater and infrastructure improvements.  Collection of this sales tax began in July of 2015.  Various new stormwater program initiatives are in the planning process.  Look for updates in the Stormwater Management page of the Village Website.

DuPage County Stormwater Facilities & Rain Gauge
The County has a number of helpful resources for DuPage residents and businesses.  One of their website resources provides access to real-time water resource data collected throughout the county (link below). There are currently 66 rain and 25 active stream gauges throughout DuPage County. For the gauges that are considered continuously recording, results are collected every 15 to 60 minutes and then transmitted back to data stores located on-site. The recording and transmission times may be more frequent during critical events or when otherwise necessary.

FEMA Disaster Declaration Process

After the historic flooding of April 2014, the Governor's Office declared that DuPage County was included in a Presidential Disaster Declaration, enabling residents to apply for Individual Assistance (IA).

Residents were able to apply for federal disaster assistance by contacting FEMA.  Several deadlines were set and extended with the final deadline for application being in August 2013.  For more information regarding this process, visit www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
