Construction Updates
Each year, the Village of Westmont coordinates, schedules, and performs a number of construction updates that improve our community's infrastructure for our residents and businesses.  Also, the County and State perform various construction projects that may impact our community.  This page has been designed to provide information regarding construction projects that will impact the Village of Westmont in the upcoming year.


CBD Alley Reconstruction Project SecF
Contract completion date:  August 2017

Location:  
Central Business District (CBD) Alley bounded by Cass & Linden from Chicago & Norfolk

Description:  
Reconstruction of the deteriorated asphalt alley with decorative pervious brick pavers and pervious concrete base for structural stability.  Project also includes storm sewer installation along the alley.

The project has been successfully let with R.W. Dunteman as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin in early June 2017 (after Manning School lets out for summer break).


Construction Activities Ongoing: (Updated 09/08/2017) *LAST UPDATE*

Week ending 09/08/2017
Finished permeable prick paver installation!  Only miscellaneous punch list items remain to be completed.

Week ending 09/01/2017
Continuing to install permeable prick pavers.  The main alley from Chicago to Norfolk completed.  The alley to Linden will be completed next week.

Week ending 08/25/2017
Continuing to install permeable prick pavers.  Also began miscellaneous cleanup and landscape restoration.

Began installing permeable brick pavers!

Week ending 08/11/2017

Pervious concrete base has been poured and must have a minimum of seven (7) days to cure/harden.  It is required that the new pervious concrete be covered with plastic and no traffic during this time.

Pervious Brick Paver installation is scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week!

Week ending 08/04/2017
Contractor completed stone base of the alley.  And completed concrete curb border of the alley.  Next week is tentatively scheduled to install pervious concrete base of the alley.

Week ending 07/28/2017
Contractor completed both storm sewer installation and sanitary manhole repairs.  Contractor also began find grading of the stone base.

Week ending 07/21/2017
Completed earth excavation of the alley.  Continuing base preparations and storm sewer installation.

Week ending 07/14/2017
Continuing earth excavation in alley along with some base preparations.  It was a slower week with the upcoming Taste of Westmont event.

Week ending 07/07/2017
Continuing earth excavation in alley along with some base preparations.

Week ending 06/30/2017
Survey layout completed by the Contractor.  Contractor also completed pavement removals throughout the alley.  The Contractor started earth excavation.  Earth excavation will continue into next week along with base preparation.

Week ending 06/23/2017
NiCor finally completed their relocate!  The Village's contractor has started mobilizing equipment and materials into the site.  Tree protection and erosion control measures have been installed.  The contractor is scheduled to begin Monday with excavation.

Week ending 06/16/2017
Another NiCor delay!  They notified the Village indicating they will not be completed by the end of the week and has provided a new date of Wednesday, June 21st.  Village's anticipated start date is delayed to mid-next week.

Week ending 06/09/2017

NiCor relocation work continuing.  NiCor has indicated that they should be completed with their relocation work by the end of next week.  Village's anticipated start date is delayed another week to approximately Monday, June 19th.

Week ending 06/02/2017
NiCor relocation work is continuing.  

Week ending 05/26/2017
NiCor relocation work is anticipated to begin the week of June 5th.  With the NiCor work on-going, the actual alley reconstruction work is now approximately one (1) week delayed.  The Village's new anticipated start date is June 12th.

Week ending 05/12/2017
Pre-construction meeting was held on 04/28/2017.  The Village also held an Open House Meeting for Businesses and Residents to attend and view project details on 05/11/2017.  The project is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 7th (the day after Manning School lets out for summer break).  Utility locates indicate NiCor has utilities that are in conflict with the proposed alley improvements.  NiCor will begin relocation work in the next couple of weeks.



East Richmond Water Main Replacement Project (Phase 2)

Contract completion date:  August 2017

Location:  
East Richmond between Cass and Wilmette

Description:  
Replacement of existing 4" and 6" cast iron watermain with new 3,000 LF of 8" PVC Watermain.  Project also includes installation of new fire hydrants, water valve vaults, sidewalk improvements, and resurfacing of Richmond Street from Cass Avenue to Richmond Avenue.

The project has been successfully let with R.W. Dunteman as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin in early June 2017 (after Holy Trinity School lets out for summer break).

Completed asphalt surface!  Only miscellaneous punch list items remain to be completed.

Week ending 08/25/2017
Completed level binder and began miscellaneous cleanup and landscape restoration.

Week ending 08/18/2017
Completed roadway grinding and manhole adjustments.

Week ending 08/11/2017
Concrete curb, sidewalk repairs. roadway base repairs on-going.  Next week, we are tentatively scheduled to begin roadway resurfacing.

Week ending 08/04/2017
Contractor began curb and gutter repairs.

Week ending 07/28/2017
Watermain installation is completed.  Contractor started concrete removals for curb and sidewalk repairs.

Week ending 07/21/2017
Contractor transferring water services to the new watermain.

Week ending 07/14/2017
Begin sidewalk remove and replace along Richmond, east of Wilmette.  Begin transferring water services to the new watermain.  It is a slower week with the upcoming Taste of Westmont event.

Week ending 07/07/2017
Contractor completed fire hydrant and valve installations.  New watermain has been flushed, chlorinated, and pressure tested.  Samples have also been taken and we are awaiting laboratory results.  Expect curb and sidewalk repairs to begin next week.

Week ending 06/30/2017
Watermain (mainline) installation is completed.  Contractor installing valve vaults and new fire hydrants for the remainder of the week.  The contractor intends to flush the new line and complete required tests (i.e. pressure test, sampling, etc.) next week.

Week ending 06/23/2017
Watermain installation has begun!  Contractor is working easterly along Richmond from Cass Avenue.  Tree protection and erosion control also installed.

Week ending 06/16/2017
Resident notices have been hand-delivered.  Construction layout has started.  We anticipate erosion control and tree protection to be installed early next week in anticipation of construction to begin!

Week ending 06/09/2017
Pre-construction meeting was held on 06/06/2017.  The project is scheduled to begin on the week of June 12th (after Holy Trinity School lets out for summer break).  


Naperville-Warwick Storm Sewer Improvement Project
Contract completion date:  November 2017

Location:  
Along north Warwick between Melrose and Norfolk

Description:  
Installation of 1,200 LF of 36" storm sewer from Warwick & Melrose southerly to Warwick & Norfolk.  Project also includes watermain replacement, sanitary sewer relocation, street resurfacing, sidewalk improvements, and other related work.

The project has been successfully let with Elanar Construction as the qualified low bidder.  We anticipate construction to begin in early May 2017.


Construction Activities Ongoing: (Updated 09/15/2017)

Week ending 09/15/2017
Contractor continuing to perform rough grading for ditches, installing driveway culverts, installation of 2' stone shoulders, and sidewalk concrete removals. 

AT&T finally completed relocation of their utility along the west side of 300 block of North Warwick and our Contractor began and completed the storm sewer installation this week.

We are expecting concrete installation next week along with roadway patching and resurfacing operations to begin.

Week ending 09/08/2017
Contractor continuing to perform rough grading for ditches, installing driveway culverts, installation of 2' stone shoulders, sidewalk concrete removals.  

We are still awaiting AT&T to complete their utility relocate on the west side of the 300 block of Warwick.  Much of the wires have been pulled; however, wiring splicing is taking longer than expected.

Week ending 09/01/2017
Contractor began performing rough grading for ditches, installation of 2' stone shoulders, began sidewalk concrete removals, and general cleanup of the site.  The new watermain has been pressure tested, chlorinated, and sampled.  We anticipate passing tests by next week and should be placed into service.

AT&T is onsite performing relocation of their utility along the 300 block of North Warwick this week.  AT&T is anticipated to be completed by mid-next week.  Nicor completed their relocation at Warwick and Chicago.

Week ending 08/25/2017
Contractor completed main storm sewer installation!  We are still awaiting AT&T to complete utility conflict relocation along the west side of the 300 block of Warwick.  Unfortunately, we have not been able to confirm the AT&T construction start date.  

Contractor to complete watermain replacement in the 200 block of Warwick.

Week ending 08/18/2017
Began water service replacement along the 200 block of Warwick.  Nicor began utility relocate along Chicago Avenue.

Week ending 08/11/2017
Contractor continuing storm sewer installation along 300 block of north Warwick.  Another AT&T utility conflict has been found.  Staff currently working with AT&T to relocate.

Week ending 08/04/2017
Contractor completed storm sewer installation across Chicago Avenue and is continuing along the 300 block of north Warwick.  Chicago Avenue has been temporarily patched and re-opened to traffic.

Week ending 07/28/2017
Full closure of Chicago Avenue started on Monday, June 24th.  Contractor completed watermain adjustments, sanitary sewer relocation, and completed storm sewer installation across Chicago Avenue.  Site was temporarily backfilled with gravel with a temporary asphalt pavement patch scheduled for early next week.

Week ending 07/21/2017
Utility relocates completed.  We anticipate starting work again next week with the full closure of Chicago Avenue to continue the storm sewer installation across Chicago Avenue.  We hope to re-open Chicago Avenue by August 4th.
  • Eastbound Chicago Avenue Traffic:  Detour will be Cass Avenue to Ogden Avenue to Blackhawk Drive
  • Westbound Chicago Avenue Traffic:  Detour will be Blackhawk Drive to Ogden Avenue to Cass Avenue

Week ending 07/14/2017
AT&T on-site relocating utility conflict.
NiCor on-site relocating utility conflict.
Contractor shut-down until conflicts have been relocated.

Week ending 07/07/2017
Contractor completed storm sewer and sanitary sewer improvements up to Chicago Avenue.  Due to an unforeseen NiCor and AT&T utility conflict, contractor has halted construction work until utility conflicts can be relocated.  

We anticipate work to begin again the week of July 17th.

Week ending 06/30/2017
Contractor continuing to install 36" storm sewer northerly towards Chicago Avenue.  Also completed sanitary sewer improvements to Chicago Avenue.  Air Test passed and FCWRD inspected and provided approvals.

Week ending 06/23/2017
Contractor continuing to install 36" storm sewer northerly towards Chicago Avenue.

Week ending 06/16/2017
Contractor sanitary sewer installation to Chicago Avenue completed.  Contractor started installation of the 36" storm sewer working northerly towards Chicago Avenue.

Week ending 06/09/2017
Contractor began sanitary sewer relocation.  Work will continue to Chicago Avenue.

Week ending 06/02/2017
Pre-Construction Video Taping completed.  Tree removals completed.  Erosion Control and Tree Protection Measures have been installed.

Week ending 05/12/2017
Pre-construction meeting was held on 04/25/2017.  Preliminary construction work has begun this week with utility locates.  We anticipate material and equipment mobilization the upcoming week.




Richmond Avenue Resurfacing Project (Partner with the Village of Clarendon Hills)
Contract completion date:  November 2017

Location:  
Along north Richmond between Chicago Avenue and Ogden Avenue

Description:  
The Village has partnered with the Village of Clarendon Hills to perform maintenance work along Richmond Avenue.  Work will consist of resurfacing of the roadway, sidewalk improvements, installation of the concrete shoulder, and other related work.


Construction Activities Ongoing: (Updated 09/15/2017)

Week ending 09/15/2017
Contractor completed manhole adjustments and sod installation.  They are continuing to water newly laid sod.  We are expecting final asphalt surface shortly!

Week ending 08/25/2017
Asphalt Level Binder installed!  Contractor began manhole adjustments throughout the area.

Week ending 08/11/2017
Continuing miscellaneous landscape restoration along with some asphalt driveway restoration.  Roadway resurfacing expected to begin next week.

Week ending 07/28/2017
Miscellaneous landscape restoration beginning along Richmond.

Week ending 07/21/2017
Not much construction work along Richmond.  Most of the construction activities located in Clarendon Hills on the other streets scheduled for repairs.

Week ending 07/14/2017
Continue driveway restoration throughout Richmond.

Week ending 07/07/2017
Continue driveway restoration throughout Richmond.  Slower week due to the 4th of July Holiday.

Week ending 06/30/2017
Contractor poured concrete shoulder and miscellaneous driveways.  We anticipate all driveway access to be restored by the upcoming 4th holiday.

Week ending 06/23/2017
Contractor excavating on east side of the roadway (Phase 2).  Contractor began prep work for concrete.

Week ending 06/16/2017
Contractor completed concrete shoulder, curbs, and some driveways along the west side of Richmond.  Next week, contractor intends to begin excavation on the east side of Richmond for the installation of the concrete shoulder.

Week ending 06/09/2017
Contractor poured concrete from Chicago to Traube for the concrete shoulder.  Contractor also began to perform prep work on some concrete driveways.

Week ending 06/02/2017

Contractor began excavating for the concrete shoulder on the west side of the roadway.

Week ending 05/12/2017
Contractor has started layout and began performing driveway removals.
