Construction Updates
Each year, the Village of Westmont coordinates, schedules, and performs a number of construction updates that improve our community's infrastructure for our residents and businesses.  Also, the County and State perform various construction projects that may impact our community.  This page has been designed to provide information regarding construction projects that will impact the Village of Westmont in the upcoming year.


CBD Alley Reconstruction Project SecA and SecB
Contract completion date:  November 2016

Location:  
Central Business District (CBD) Alley bounded by Cass & Lincoln from Burlington to Irving to Norfolk
  • Section A:  Between Cass and Lincoln and Burlington and Irving
  • Section B:  Between Cass and Lincoln and Irving and Norfolk

Description:  
Reconstruction of the deteriorated asphalt alley with decorative pervious brick pavers and pervious concrete base for structural stability.  Project also includes storm sewer installation along both blocks of alley.

The project was successfully bid on July 8th and was awarded to the low bidder, RW Dunteman, at the Village Board Meeting on August 4th, 2016.  RW Dunteman low bid of $1,109,270.50 was 16% below the Engineer's Estimate of $1,406,885.00.

Week of November 4th: (LAST UPDATE)
Section A and B:
Brick paver installation is completed and alleys are now open to thru traffic.

During the next couple of weeks, the contractor will be performing miscellaneous punch list items (i.e. landscape restoration, gravel parking lot restoration, etc) to complete the contract.  Please expect some temporary alley closures during the working day.

Week of October 28th:
Section A:
Brick paver installation has begun!  Brick installation is anticipated to be completed by Monday.

Section B:
Brick paver installation will begin Monday (10/31) and is anticipated to be completed by the end of next week.


Week of October 14th:
Section A:
Completed installation of pervious concrete base.  Please allow 7 days for curing.

Section B:
Completed installation of pervious concrete base.  Please allow 7 days for curing.

Pervious Brick Paver installation tentatively scheduled late next week.

Week of October 7th:
Section A:
Completed parking lot and driveway restorations.
Prepare alley for pervious concrete base installation.

Section B:
Completed storm sewer installation.
Completed stone base installation.
Completed curb installation.
Completed parking lot and driveway restorations.

Prepare alley for pervious concrete base installation.


Week of September 30th:
Section A:
Completed storm sewer installation.
Completed stone base installation.
Completed curb installation.
Begin parking lot and driveway restoration.

Section B:
Completed excavation for base in alley.
Continue storm sewer installation.


Week of September 23rd:
Complete excavation for base in Section A alley and begin to install storm sewers.  

Begin excavation in Section B for base preparation.

Week of September 16th:
Village's contractor continuing to perform excavation in Section A alley in preparation for the base.

Week of September 9th:
Sanitary sewer construction by DGSD is completed and their contractor began miscellaneous restoration and cleanup.

Village's contractor began alley excavation in Section A.  Also complete miscellaneous tree and brush removals.

Week of September 2nd:
Final sanitary sewer improvements almost completed.  Village contractor has started to mobilize equipment and material to the construction area.  Survey layout has started for both sections of alley.

Waste Management setup community garbage and recycling containers along Burlington, Irving, and Norfolk in preparation of the alley closures.

Week of August 26th:
Much of the construction in the alley is the Downers Grove Sanitary District completing their sanitary sewer replacement.  We are anticipating the District completing their work early next week.  The Village's contractor is still scheduled to begin miscellaneous construction work on Monday, August 29th.

Week of August 19th:
Pre-Construction meeting has been completed.  RW Dunteman is tentatively scheduled to begin construction on Monday, August 29th as the Downers Grove Sanitary District starts to wrap up completion of their sanitary sewer replacement project.  It is anticipated that the alley reconstruction should be completed by the end of October 2016.  Resident and Business notices shall be hand-delivered by Public Work staff by the end of the week.

An Open House Meeting is scheduled on Thursday, August 25th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Public Works Department 39 E. Burlington Avenue.  Public Works staff will be available to answer any questions and there will be a sample of the brick pavers for viewing.


East Richmond Water Main Replacement Project
Contract completion date:  August 2016

Location:  
East Richmond between Wilmette and Richmond

Description:  
Replacement of existing 4" and 6" cast iron watermain with new 3,100 LF of 8" PVC Watermain.  Project also includes installation of 8 fire hydrants and 7 water valve vaults.

The project was successfully bid on May 11th and is expected to be awarded to the low bidder, Suburban General, at the next Village Board Meeting on May 26, 2016.  Suburban General's low bid of $664,985.20 was 14% below the Engineer's Estimate of $780,000.00.  

Construction Activities Ongoing: (LAST UPDATED 11/04/2016)

Week of November 4th:  (LAST UPDATE)
Driveways and landscaping is completed.  Only punch list items remain.

Week of October 28th:
Roadway patching completed.  Contractor scheduled to complete driveway repairs by early next week.

Week of October 14th:
Awaiting roadway restoration.  Tentatively scheduled next week.

Week of October 7th:
Complete landscape restoration (grading of parkways).

Week of September 30th:
Continue landscape restoration (grading of parkways).

Week of September 23rd:
Begin landscape restoration (grading of parkways).

Week of September 16th:
Complete curb, sidewalk, and driveway restorations.

Week of September 9th:
Transferring of the individual residential services to the new watermain is completed.  Expect roadway restoration to begin as early as next week.

Week of September 2nd:
Individual residential services are being transferred to the new watermain.

Week of August 26th:
New watermain has passed all required IEPA testing and sampling and now may be put into service.

Week of August 19th:
The new water main has passed the pressure test and is currently being chlorinated.  Water samples will be taken and tested next week.  We anticipate samples to pass and the contractor to begin transferring water services to the new main mid-next week.

Week of August 12th:
Installation of approximately 2,500 feet of 8" PVC watermain is completed along Richmond Street between Wilmette and Richmond Avenue.  The contractor also installed seven (7) hydrants and four (4) water valve vaults. 

Contractor completed flushing of the new water main along Richmond Avenue.  The main has been pressure tested and water sampling has been completed.  We expect the contractor to begin transferring water services mid-next week.

Week of July 29th:
Installation of approximately 700 feet of 8" PVC watermain is completed along Richmond between Quincy and the detention facility located just south of Richmond.  The contractor has also installed two (2) fire hydrants and two (2) water valves.  It is expected this section of watermain will be flushed, tested, and sampled early next week in preparation for resident water services to be installed shortly.  It is expected watermain installation to begin along E-W Richmond from N-S Richmond to Wilmette next week.

Week of July 22nd:

Contractor began mobilizing materials and equipment.  Also began installing erosion control measures and tree protection throughout the project.  Existing utilities are being located.  It is expected watermain installation shall begin next week.
