The Village of Westmont currently contracts with Waste Management to provide Residential and Commercial Recycling and Waste Hauling Services.  For information regarding Westmont's Recycling and Waste Hauling Program, please contact Waste Management at wm.com or 1-800-796-9696.

NEW ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PROGRAM BEGINS MARCH March 19, 2016
Third Saturday of each Month, 8am - NOON

Downers Grove Township launches their new Electronics Recycling Program on Saturday, March 19, 8 a.m to Noon at their Highway Department Facility at 318 E. Quincy Street in Westmont. There will be a few program changes including a charge for TVs. The program will continue on the third Saturday of each month, unless that date falls on a holiday. 

CHANGES TO PROGRAM
* NO audio cassettes, videotapes, or CDs will be accepted.
* There will be a CHARGE FOR ALL TVs. 
* All TVs will need to have a prepaid coupon from AVA to be accepted. 
* Prices for TVs will range from $15 to $60. 
* A copy of the coupon can be taken to AVA’s retail store in Glendale Heights to be used as cash towards the purchase of refurbished electronic equipment.
* Prices for recycling TVs and coupon purchases can be obtained by going to their website at       AVArecycling.com and clicking on the municipal box on the top left portion of the screen.

* Computers, Laptops, LCD Monitors, Batteries & UPS Systems
* Printers, Copiers, Fax Machines
* Electronic Circuitboards, Cords, Wires
* Small Appliances & Toys
* Central Office Equipment

* Medical Equipment
* Telephones, Cell Phones

As in the past, the collection event closes promptly at noon.  Electronics can only be dropped off on event dates. Drop-offs outside of designated hours are not allowed.

WASTE MANAGEMENT WASTE HAULING PROGRAM
The Village of Westmont contracts with Waste Management for waste hauling, recycling, and brush pick-up services.  The current contract will be in effect through 2018 and calls for a 2 to 4% increase for each of the next four years. The WM contracts also allows for special fluorescent light bulb recycling and a sharps kiosk drop-off program.


WASTE MANAGEMENT BRUSH PICK-UP PROGRAM
Since 2014, Waste Management has been providing a weekly brush pickup program that begins in April and coincides with the Yard Waste Collection Program. The program typically ends in early December. Branches and tree limbs must be tied with twine or string into bundles no more than 4 feet long and 1 ½ feet in diameter. Each bundle must weigh less than fifty (50) pounds. Trees, stumps, and branches larger than six (6) inches in diameter cannot be collected as yard waste. Brush should be placed with your other refuse on your usual pickup day. SAFE DISPOSAL OF NEEDLES
There is a Sharps Kiosk in the lobby of the Westmont Police Department, 500 N. Cass Avenue. Residents will have access to the kiosk during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., to safely drop off unwanted or used needles. Needles should be put in the proper receptacles, located at the Police Dept., before being placed in the kiosk.


COOKING OIL COLLECTION EXPANDED
Due to the overwhelming turnout at the post-Thanksgiving cooking oil collection in Downers Grove they have decided to become a permanent collection site!  There are now six locations in DuPage County that are open regularly for recycling cooking oil.  The cooking oil collection program is growing!  For a list of all of the locations visit www.scarce.org.

FREE COOKING OIL RECYCLING
On Saturday, Nov. 28, 9 a.m. to Noon, there will be a cooking oil recycling event at the Johanik Fire Station Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass. Residents are encouraged to bring their used cooking oil to the event so that it can be collected and recycling.


HOLIDAY LIGHTS RECYCLING PROGRAM
For several years, the Village of Westmont has been teaming with Elgin Recycling Co. to provide a holiday lights recycling collection in the Village of Westmont. The collection container is typically placed at the Frank Johanik Fire Station Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass.  The drop-off program is self-service and the container is located near the southwest corner of the parking lot. Look for the 2016 Holiday Lights Collection to start about mid-November and continue through the end of January 2017.  For more information regarding this program, please contact Elgin Recycling at www.ElginRecycling.com or 847-741-4100.


CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM
Per the Village contract with Waste Management, Christmas Trees are picked up in Westmont during the first two full weeks of the new year. All trees picked up during this timeframe will be recycled. Trees should be put out with your other waste on your typical trash pickup day. To be picked up and recycled, Christmas Trees MUST be free of decorations, tinsel, and lights. Also, Christmas Trees should NOT be placed in garbage or waste bags of any sort. Trees put out after the first two full weeks of the year will be considered garbage and may be subject to a fine.
