Communications Specialist - Part Time
The Village of Westmont, IL (pop. 24,685) Communications Specialist is responsible for performing functions and tasks to assist with the Village’s public information, community marketing, civic engagement, special projects and events, and overall communication.  This position works under the direction of the Communications Director in the Village’s Administration Department.

Requires proficient communication skills in writing and oral communication; knowledge and ability in word processing, desktop publishing and other computer programs needed to develop press releases, social media posts, brochures, newsletters, and other media; and proficient knowledge and experience in public relations, community affairs, and/or marketing.  

Requires an Associate’s degree with courses in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or related field.  Must possess valid IL Vehicle Operator’s License.

Starting salary range is $19.75 to $20.40 (DOQ).  Average weekly hours are 20-25 hours per week.

Part-Time Fire Inspector / Public Education Specialist
The Village of Westmont is accepting applications for the position of part-time Fire Inspector/Public Education Specialist for the Westmont Fire Department. Located in southeast DuPage County, The Westmont FD serves an area of approximately eight square miles with a population of approximately 25,000 residents. 

The Westmont Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for all commercial inspections within the Westmont FD jurisdiction.  Annually, over 2000 inspections are conducted.  The FPB reports directly to the Fire Chief and consists of 4 Fire Inspectors, an Assistant Director, a Director, and an Administrative Assistant.

In addition to fire inspections, Inspectors are an integral part of the Public Education program and take part in an extensive public education program geared towards fire department public relations, community awareness, and safety. 

Applicants with actual fire department experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not possess the required certifications.  

Job Description
  • Perform annual fire inspections and life safety construction inspections as required.
  • Participate and help plan fire related public education and public relations events.
  • Participate and help plan fire department involvement in community events.
  • Acquire and maintain ICC certifications as directed by the Department.
  • Enter data into FireHouse and maintain relevant records.
  • Conduct preplans.
  • Investigate fire alarms and complaints.
  • Hours;  15–20 hours per week.  Occasional weekends and evenings.

Requirements
  • ICC Fire Inspector I or NFPA equivalent, or obtained with 12 months of hire.
  • Illinois State Fire Marshal Instructor I or NFPA equivalent.  Or obtained with 12 months of hire.
  • Familiarity with FireHouse software and Google documents.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
  • Applicants should be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • At least 5 years as a firefighter or fire inspector elsewhere.

Salary
  • First year starting salary is $22.82 per hour for Probationary. Firefighter/Public Education Specialist.  After successfully completing probationary period, salary increases to $25.12/hour.
  • Paid holidays and time off contingent upon average hours worked.
  • Possible participation in IMRF pension depending on number of hours worked.
